Zoho Editor

The Zoho Editor plugin opens office documents held in FileRun with Zoho's online editor, so they can be previewed, created and edited in the browser, by several people at once.

There is no server for you to install: the editor is Zoho's online service. Your FileRun installation has to be reachable from the Internet, because Zoho's servers fetch the document from it and send it back when it is saved.

See Collaborative editing for the other editors FileRun supports.

Step 1: Get an API key

Sign up for the Office Integrator service at zoho.com/officeplatform and copy the API key it gives you.

Step 2: Configure the FileRun plugin

Open the control panel, go to FilesPlugins, select Zoho Editor and click Edit.

How the collaboration works

When somebody opens a document, FileRun asks Zoho to create an editing session and remembers the Zoho document id on the file. A second person opening the same file joins that same document rather than starting a separate copy, so the edits appear to everyone at once. FileRun also sends each person's name, which is how the editor labels who is making a change.

The document id is stored as a hidden metadata value on the file. It is not shown in the metadata panel.

Choose when it is used

To make Zoho the editor that opens when a user double-clicks an office document, set it as the default under FilesPluginsDefaults. Otherwise it is offered in the Open with.. menu.

A user without permission to change the file is sent to Zoho's preview instead of the editor.
