System settings🔗

System → Settings in the control panel holds the settings that concern the whole installation: maintenance mode, the network, the administrator's contact details, update checks and error reporting. Only the superuser can open it.

System → Third party services, described at the end of this page, is in the same part of the control panel.

Maintenance mode🔗

Tick Enable maintenance mode to close FileRun to everybody except the superuser, for example while you move it to another server or change its configuration.

While it is on:

• Signed-in users see Maintenance message to users, with a Sign out link, instead of their files. The sign-in page shows the same message.
• People opening a shared link see Maintenance message to the public.
• The desktop sync app and the mobile apps are told that the server is in maintenance.
• The scheduled tasks everyMinute.php, every5minutes.php and daily.php do nothing. See Command line tools.
• The superuser keeps full access, to the interface and to the control panel.

FileRun turns maintenance mode on by itself while it applies a software update, and turns it off again afterwards. If it was already on, it stays on.

Network🔗

Lock the URL and Trusted proxies concern installations that sit behind a reverse proxy. Both are described on Reverse proxies.

Administrator contact information🔗

A text for users who need the administrator's help. FileRun shows it on the page that asks users to confirm their identity. Write how to reach you: an e-mail address, a phone number, or the name of a help desk.

Software updates🔗

Check for software updates automatically is on by default. At most once a day, the server asks filerun.com whether a newer version exists, and the request includes the version installed. When there is one, the superuser and the administrators see a notice.

The Check for updates button on System → Update works whether this option is on or off. See Updating FileRun.

Troubleshooting🔗

Enable error reporting for the superuser shows the superuser the full details of an error, where everybody else sees only "Internal Software Error". Other users are never shown these details. Turn it on while you look for the cause of a problem in the main interface, and turn it off again afterwards.

Exporting and importing settings🔗

Under System → Settings:

• Export settings downloads the settings as a JSON file. The file does not include the users, the roles, the groups, the plugin defaults, the metadata, the notification rules or the API clients.
• Import settings loads such a file, for example into a new installation.
• Export database writes a copy of the database to a file in your home folder.

None of these replaces a backup. See Backing up the installation.

Third party services🔗

System → Third party services has three settings:

• Use Gravatar.com for users profile images. is on by default. For a user who has not uploaded a profile picture, the server asks gravatar.com for a picture registered to the user's e-mail address. Turn it off if your server should not contact Gravatar.
• API key, in the fieldset Google Static Maps API, lets FileRun show a small map for photos that record where they were taken, in the Details panel, and draw map thumbnails for files that contain a GPS track. The key is sent to the users' browsers, so restrict it to your FileRun address in the Google Cloud console.
• Tracker codes is HTML that FileRun adds to the pages of the main interface and to the public pages, such as the sign-in page and shared links. It is meant for traffic analysis scripts.
